Syrian military aircraft shot down an unmanned US

According to AFP, the Syrian state media reported 17/3 days the military had shot down a US drone in the sky coastal Latakia province, a stronghold of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

SANA news agency reported: "The Syrian air defense forces shot down a US spy plane in the sky Latakia." However, the news agency gave no further details about the incident.

This seems to be the first time Damascus prevent a US aircraft in the airspace of the country since the US-led coalition fighting organized Islamic State (IS) claiming to begin airstrikes in the territory of Syria in March 9/2014.

Syria does not participate in the US-led airstrikes aimed at IS, but so far have control actions aimed at aircraft participating in the coalition campaign.
